Qualities that make a person succesful

Desire- A burning desire is the starting point of all accomplishment. Just like a small fire cannot give much heat, a weak desire cannot produce great results.

Commitment- The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.
--Vince Lombardi

Responsibility- Responsible people accept and learn from their mistakes.

Hard Work- The average person puts only 25% of his energy and ability into his work. The world takes off its hat to those who put in more than 50% of their capacity, and stands on its head for those few and far between souls who devote 100%.
--Andrew Carnegie

Character- George Washington said, "I hope I shall always possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most valuable of all titles, the character of an honest man."

Positive Believing- Positive believing is an attitude of confidence that comes with preparation.

Give more than you get - Winners put in 100% and then some more.

Persistence - Nothing will take the place of persistence. Talent will not : Nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent . Genius will not : Unrewarded genius is a proverb. Education will not: The world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

Steps For Building Positive Attitude

Step1: Change focus – look for the positive - Most people find what they are looking for. If they are looking for friendship, happiness and the positive, that is what they get. If they are looking for fights or indifference, then that is what they get.

Step 2: Make a habit of doing it now - Life is not a dress rehearsal. I don't care what philosophy you believe in--we have got only one shot at this game called life. The stakes are too high. The stakes are the future generations.

Step 3: Develop an attitude of gratitude - Count your blessings, not your troubles. Take time to smell the roses.

Step 4: Get into a continuous education program - Spend so much time improving yourself that you have no time left to criticize others.

Step 5: Build a positive self-esteem - If you want to build positive self-esteem quickly, one of the fastest ways is to do something for others who cannot repay you in cash or kind.

Step 6: Stay away from negative influences - A person’s character is not only judged by the company he keeps, but also by the company he avoids.

Step 7: Learn to like the things that need to be done - Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.
--St. Francis of Assisi

Step 7: Start your day with a positive -
"If you are going to change your life, you need to start immediately and do it flamboyantly." Read more...

Issue of Missing folders in BOXI R2 while scheduling

In our BO XIR2 environment, we used to schedule reports using the administrator and publish them in respective folders in CMS. All of a sudden one day, when we wanted to schedule one report, the folder list in CMS disappeared. From the desktop client, when we clicked on export / import repository, it did not list the folder list. In fact the root folder itself was disabled. It was surprising since no changes were done. After rebooting, rechecking the server settings and checking in the testing environment, problem still persisted. From Infoview we were able to view the folder list and the reports scheduled. We then tried to login from a different administrator user and there the folder list was visible!!! our activities are resumed, but still do not what happened to the administrator. Must be something to do with rights. We have raised this issue with BO support. Will update with the reasons.. Read more...

OWB SQL generation

Mappings created in OWB generate ANSI SQL by default. While this is good universal methodology, people like me understand the normal pl/sql code of oracle just by looking at it. Wanted to change this and found out that this can be changed from the options of the mapping. in the control center, right click on mapping -> configure -> uncheck the generate ANSI SQL checkbox. now i see familiar code! BI Technologies

the technologies currently being used at our place is OWB, Business Objects..

Business Objects is an excellent reporting tool that has gone very well for us as a DW presentation layer. We had recently upgraded to XI R2 and it was a smooth changeover. The extra security benefits and architectural changes in XI R2 has only enhanced this.

OWB as an ETL tool is doing a decent job. Main reason for choosing this is because we have Oracle as the DB and it's tightly integrated with that. Backups / maintenance is not a nightmare. For the designer it's very user friendly. We are currently in the process of rebuilding our OWB ETL jobs are doing it in 10.2.0 version.

Will post on the progress of the ETL development.. Read more...
